Good afternoon everyone. I have been reading into copyright this week and when I came across some videos about creative commons, I was blown away about how easy it is to illegally use material on the internet. I did not realize that we are required to ask permission to use information from writers of articles and papers that are copyrighted to use their work in papers of our own. I thought it was as easy as citing the information, but apparently that is not always the case. This surprised me. It is up to users of the internet to use it responsibly. It is also our responsibility to educate ourselves and those we are responsible for about situations like this. We can also educate people about creative commons so that more material will be easier to access in the future without the fear of if we are breaking the law or not. I will be taking more care in the future to pay attention to copyright laws, and will be teaching them to people around me.

  1. Hi Lori,

This is a great topic to discuss. I know a ton about plagiarism, because as a student I hear about it every semester in every class I have. However, I rarely hear about cope wright and it may be just as important as plagiarism. I have always thought if a picture was online and there was no reference to whom created it that it was free game. Know I know otherwise. This topic should be discussed more; I'm pretty astonished that I'm a senor in college and I am just barely learning of this information.

  2. I agree that it is astonishing how little most people know about copyright laws.

  3. Hi Lori,
I was completely floored by all the copyright/ legal issue, that I encounter on a daily basis. Not only do I have to worry about it with all my college work, I have to worry about it at work as well. I also wasn't the most familiar with the copyright laws. I feel pretty comfortable with my plagiarism when I'm writing a paper, but other than that I felt like I didn't know much.
