Hello Everyone, I hope you are having an amazing day. Last week I talked about PowerPoint and a new tool called Jing. Today I am going to talk about the free snipping tool for Microsoft Window's users. I use this tool at my current employer and it is very handy. If you have a device with Windows, then you already have the Snipping Tool. I took a screenshot with this tool for the instructions on how to pull it up. I will put it after this post. This tool can be used for many different things. You can use it for illustrations for others to know what you are talking about. I am actually using it at work to make a handbook. I use this snipping tool to take screenshots so my fellow co-workers know how to do something in case I am not there. For all of you Windows users, I hope you utilize this fun tool.
After you pull up the desktop app, then this will appear:
You will then select new and snip the part of the screen you want. After that, just save it however you will know to find it, and you are done! It's that easy.

  1. Hi Lori,

Thanks for the good information. I will have try this tool. Are there any big differences between this and jing? I love jing I think I will always use it from here on out. The only way I won't continue to use it, is if they charge for the service. I know that sounds bad, but there are so many other options to use; why would I pay for it. That is one of the many beauty's to the internet.

    1. Honestly, I have not noticed any difference in this Snipping Tool and Jing. If I find any differences in the future, I will definitely let you know.

  2. I love snipping tool, I used it all the time until we purchased the license for Snagit at work. I do wish they would include some editing tools as that is the only downside I found of snipping tool.

    1. Hi Corey, I agree about the downside of Snipping Tool. I have found that after I save a screenshot, I can put it in Word and edit it there. That is a lot of work though for something so small.

  3. Hi Lori! Thanks for sharing another useful and easily applicable tool in our every day lives. I loved your blog on Jing last week, and immediately implemented it into my work! I look forward to this as well. Since the two are similar, are their preferences on which to use, or a situation that may be better for one and not the other? i could have used this earlier. I made a tutorial fro another course on Quizlet, and actually utilized screenshots. Thanks for sharing another tool we can all benefit from!

    1. Thank you Leslie. There are some subtle differences between the two. With Jing, you can take video when you can only take screenshots with the Snipping Tool. If I find more differences, I will definitely let you know.
